-
Can I travel in my own wheelchair, or can UniqueHands provide one?
Yes. Passengers may travel in their own manual or power wheelchair when it is compatible with our vehicle and securement system. If you need a wheelchair provided for the trip, please tell our scheduling team when booking. For power wheelchairs, please share the chair’s dimensions and approximate weight so we can confirm the appropriate vehicle and accommodations.
-
Do you accept Medicare, Medicaid, or private insurance?
UniqueHands is a private-pay non-emergency medical transportation provider. We do not bill Medicare, Medicaid, or private insurance directly. Upon request, we can provide a detailed receipt or transportation invoice; however, reimbursement is determined entirely by your insurance plan, and payment to UniqueHands remains the passenger’s responsibility.
-
What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept cash, major credit cards, and personal checks. Payment is generally due at the time of service unless another arrangement has been approved in advance. Please confirm the preferred payment method and total trip cost with our scheduling team when reserving transportation.
-
How far in advance should I schedule medical transportation?
We recommend scheduling at least 24 hours in advance whenever possible, especially for wheelchair transportation, bed-to-bed service, long-distance trips, hospital discharges, and appointments requiring waiting or an escort. Earlier notice provides the best opportunity to reserve the appropriate vehicle and arrival time. Same-day requests may be considered based on availability, but service cannot be guaranteed.
-
What are your hours of operation?
Our office and scheduling hours are 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., seven days a week.
Transportation outside those hours, including early-morning, evening, weekend, and holiday trips, may be available when scheduled and confirmed in advance.
UniqueHands is a pre-arranged transportation service and does not operate as an emergency response provider.
-
Can a caregiver or family member ride with me?
Yes. A caregiver, family member, or personal escort may usually accompany the passenger when seating is available. Please include the number of additional riders when booking so we can assign the appropriate vehicle and confirm whether any additional charge applies.
-
Will the driver assist me inside or stay during my appointment?
The level of assistance depends on the service reserved. We offer curb-to-curb, door-to-door, wheelchair, and bed-to-bed transportation based on the passenger’s needs and the confirmed trip details. Drivers can help the passenger reach the appropriate entrance or check-in area when arranged. Escort and waiting services are also available for certain appointments, including procedures involving anesthesia, but they must be requested when booking and may involve additional time-based charges.
-
Can I schedule a round trip if I do not know my exact return time?
Yes. We can arrange a round trip with an estimated return window or provide waiting service when requested in advance. Because appointment and discharge times can change, please ask the facility to contact us as early as possible when the passenger is ready. Return pickup timing is based on driver availability unless a dedicated waiting service has been reserved.
